Around the neighbourhood
Your guide to Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal, fondly called "Kodai" and known as the "Princess of Hill Stations", sits at 7,200 feet in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu. Unlike the British-developed hill stations, Kodaikanal was founded by American missionaries seeking refuge from the plains' heat. Today, it's a perfect blend of natural beauty, colonial charm, and adventurous spirit.
When to visit: April to June & September to October. Avoid monsoon (July-August) as heavy rains make trekking difficult. The Kurinji flowers bloom once in 12 years - next bloom expected around 2030.
Cycle Around the Lake: Rent a cycle and ride the 5km path around the star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake at sunrise.
Trek to Dolphin's Nose: A moderate 3km trek ending at a rock formation with a 6,600ft vertical drop and panoramic views.
Sunrise at Pillar Rocks: Watch the sun rise over the Palani hills from these majestic granite pillars.
Pine Forest Walk: Take a peaceful walk through the towering pine trees, perfect for photography.
Chocolate Shopping: Sample and buy handmade chocolates from the many local chocolate factories.
Coaker's Walk at Sunset: Stroll along this 1km pedestrian path with stunning valley views below.
